PCCI Supports RP’s Bid as Health Hub of Asia |
|
Recognizing the vast
potential of the health and wellness industry to boost tourism and generate
economic growth, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)
supported the Department of Tourism (DOT) in holding Asia’s biggest
Medical Tourism and Wellness Summit.
With the theme “Embracing
Health and Wellness in the Heart of Asia,” the summit brought together
world-renowned experts in the health and wellness sector and highlighted
the Philippines’ strategic location and competitive advantage in offering
world-class healthcare services in various Centers of Excellence in
the country.
Samie Lim, PCCI Vice-Chairman
and Private Sector Champion for Tourism said that “by 2010, the number of people
travelling internationally for their healthcare needs will increase
by eightfold. Studies can no longer agree if it is a 2, 10 or 40 billion
dollar business. Only one thing is very clear, it is a huge business
and it will keep growing. Our ASEAN neighbors are already
working towards their 2010 targets in terms of number of patients, in
the lines of 1.5 to 2 million per country. It is high time that we decide
on how to position and brand Philippines as a healthcare destination
before the rest of ASEAN leaves us behind.”
